The Lake House
Our client was raised on this property in the house his parents built in the early 1960’s. He struggled with doing a renovation versus construction an entirely new home. To take full advantage of the 270- degree views and overall spectacular property, pursuing a new home was the chosen direction. The simple gable forms, along with shed and flat roofs, blend in with the older cottages that line the lake. Large expanses of glass fill those volumes with light and provide stunning views, while reflecting images of the lake from the outside.
Appearing modest as you approach the home from the private street, its expansive presence on the water side offers a commanding view from every room. The home is built into the grade, but it opens up as the home extends toward the west and offers a walk-out lower level that is perfect for lake living. Above is a large terrace and deck that offers expansive outdoor living space off the main level and a place to capture the southern sun and views. Inside, the home is modern but warm, with modest sized spaces that allow it to serve as the perfect summer lake house, but also a year-round home for the owners.
